Mark Carney Promotes Federal Budget and Homelessness Plan

Prime Minister Mark Carney and Finance Minister François-Philippe Champagne are touring Canada to promote a federal budget featuring a multi-billion dollar plan to end homelessness.

Prime Minister Mark Carney and Finance Minister François-Philippe Champagne are touring Canada to promote the federal budget tabled on November 5, 2026. A central pillar of the spending plan is a commitment to end homelessness across the country within a decade, with proposed funding of $11.2 billion over the next four years and $17.8 billion over ten years.

As part of the promotional tour, Carney visited Winnipeg to detail the homelessness strategy alongside Manitoba Premier Wab Kinew. Simultaneously, Champagne attended an event hosted by the Montreal Council on Foreign Relations in Montreal to present highlights of the spending plan.

While the Liberal government now holds a majority mandate to pass its agenda, opposition leaders argue the budget fails to sufficiently address the high cost of living for Canadians.
