Trump Faces Low Public Support as Iran War Enters Fifth Month

The military campaign launched by the United States and Israel on February 28 has entered its fifth month, far exceeding the initial expectation of a four-to-six-week operation. Donald Trump is reportedly considering a return to full-scale war operations against Iran following a tenth consecutive day of strikes announced by U.S. Central Command on July 28.

Hostilities escalated after three U.S. servicemembers were killed in Jordan on July 17. This event brought the total American death toll in the conflict to 18, with over 400 others wounded. Trump has asserted that the primary objectives of the war are to eliminate Iran's ballistic missile capabilities and prevent nuclear development.

A Reuters/Ipsos poll indicates significant domestic opposition to the conflict, with support falling to a record low of approximately 33% and 62% of respondents disapproving of the attacks. Additionally, 69% of Americans believe the president has failed to clearly explain the war's goals. Republican strategists express concern that this disapproval, coupled with gasoline prices rising above $4 per gallon, may negatively impact the party in the November midterm elections, particularly among independent voters.
