US and Israel Prepare Renewed Strikes Against Iran
The United States and Israel are deploying military assets and planning strikes on Iranian nuclear and energy sites following the November 3 midterm elections.
The United States and Israel are preparing for renewed military strikes against Iranian nuclear, energy, and defense infrastructure. This escalation follows a war launched on February 28, 2026, which began with strikes that killed Iran's supreme leader and transitioned into a lull marked by a U.S. naval blockade of Iranian ports.
U.S. Secretary of War Pete Hegseth recently visited Israel to coordinate joint operations with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. To support these plans, the U.S. is deploying a Patriot missile defense system to Israel, dispatching the USS Theodore Roosevelt carrier strike group and the USS Makin Island amphibious group, and adding approximately 9,000 troops to West Asia. U.S. and Israeli aircraft are currently conducting drills over Iraq to rehearse attack maneuvers.
While the White House indicated no attacks will occur before the November 3 midterm elections, U.S. officials have warned regional allies to prepare for Iranian retaliation against energy facilities and critical infrastructure. In Israel, Benjamin Netanyahu continues to lead a caretaker government following an inconclusive election, though legal experts state he retains the authority to authorize security operations.
Iran has dismissed the prospect of a quick military campaign as a fantasy and warned that retaliation would target data centers and seabed internet cables. Despite adopting a new offensive doctrine of preemptive strikes and increasing attacks in the Strait of Hormuz, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi stated that Tehran continues to seek a diplomatic solution and a seven-day ceasefire.
