Private Prison Firms Profit From Trump Mass Deportation Agenda

Private prison corporations, including The GEO Group and CoreCivic, are expanding operations and increasing profits by capitalizing on President Donald Trump's accelerated immigration crackdown and mass deportation agenda. These firms utilize contracts with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement that include guaranteed minimums, which ensure the government pays for beds regardless of actual occupancy levels.

The Trump administration has supported this growth by earmarking $45 billion for the construction of new detention centers. Additionally, the administration signed a $140 million contract with Boeing Defense, Space & Security to provide aircraft specifically for deportation flights. Currently, 90 percent of non-citizen immigrants detained by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security are held in for-profit facilities.

Critics and advocacy groups argue these policies create a symbiotic relationship where the government and private industry mutually benefit from increased incarceration. In response, CoreCivic has maintained that its facilities are subject to rigorous oversight and that the company does not influence immigration law or deportation decisions.
