Nvidia Shifts to Annual AI Chip Update Cycle

The AI chip manufacturer Nvidia Corporation has transitioned to an annual update cycle for its chips and platforms. This shift began with the launch of the Blackwell architecture in March 2024, which the company followed with the Blackwell Ultra update. The transition is designed to accelerate the deployment of AI hardware, with the company planning to release the Vera Rubin system late next year.

The Blackwell system has already contributed to substantial financial gains, including a 17% increase in data center revenue in the most recent quarter and a 40% rise in stock price throughout the year. CEO Jensen Huang stated that "The AI race is on, and Blackwell is the platform at its center."

Market analysts suggest the company's stock could continue to climb through early 2027, citing previous triple-digit gains during the 24-month windows following the release of the Ampere and Hopper architectures. This growth projection remains contingent on the absence of significant geopolitical or economic risks.
