Narendra Modi Inaugurates Pune Metro and Schedules Bengaluru Visit

Prime Minister Narendra Modi virtually opened Pune's Pink Line and Phase-II projects before scheduling the inauguration of Bengaluru's Namma Metro elevated section for November 13.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi virtually inaugurated the Pune Metro Line 3, known as the Pink Line, on November 3, 2026. The 23-kilometer elevated corridor connects Maan-Hinjawadi to Shivajinagar and the District Court, linking the Rajiv Gandhi Infotech Park with the city's commercial hub. Built at a cost of over ₹8,300 crore, the line features 23 stations and emphasizes gender equality, employing approximately 100 women train pilots and ensuring women make up 50 percent of station staff. During the same event, Modi laid the foundation stone for Pune Metro Phase-II, a ₹13,500 crore expansion including Lines 2A, 2B, 4, and 4A.

Modi noted that India's operational metro network has grown to 1,200 km from 248 km before 2014. The Pune project also incorporates 7.60 MW of solar power to meet nearly 30 percent of its energy needs.

Following the Pune events, Modi is scheduled to visit Bengaluru on November 13 to inaugurate a 7.5-km elevated section of the Namma Metro Pink Line between Kalena Agrahara and Tavarekere. This section received safety clearance from the Commissioner of Metro Railway Safety on October 28. Once operational, the Bengaluru network will expand to 103.6 km, though the remaining 13.8-km underground section is not expected to be operational until 2027.
