Trump Continues White House Ballroom Build Amid Legal Battle

President Donald Trump is continuing the construction of a 90,000-square-foot ballroom at the White House despite lower court rulings that the project lacked necessary congressional authorization. To expedite the build, the administration is utilizing a 250-person crew working 20 hours a day, seven days a week, arguing that any delays would impair security.

The project is the subject of a legal challenge by the National Trust for Historic Preservation in the United States in the case National Park Service v. National Trust for Historic Preservation in the United States. A federal appeals court previously ruled to halt most above-ground construction, but Chief Justice John Roberts issued an interim order allowing the work to proceed while the Supreme Court of the United States considers the case.

The National Trust for Historic Preservation in the United States claims the administration is attempting to "outrun judicial review" to make the project a "fait accompli."
