Saudi Arabia to Invest €6 Billion in French Manga Park
Saudi Arabia will invest €6 billion to build a Dragon Ball Z-themed amusement park complex near Paris, creating an estimated 22,000 jobs.
The government of Saudi Arabia and France have agreed to develop a €6 billion ($7 billion) theme park complex near Cergy-Pontoise, northwest of Paris. The project, announced during a visit by Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman to Paris, will consist of three theme and leisure parks, including a major attraction dedicated to the Japanese manga franchise Dragon Ball Z.
Emmanuel Macron and the Crown Prince reportedly initiated the concept based on a shared passion for manga discovered during a visit to Saudi Arabia. The development will be financed and led by Qiddiya, a subsidiary of the Saudi Public Investment Fund. In addition to the parks, the site—located on the former grounds of the Mirapolis theme park—will include hotels, dining facilities, and housing for students and young professionals.
French officials expect the project to create approximately 22,000 jobs. President Macron described the development as a new global destination comparable in scale to Disneyland Paris and a sign of France's continued appeal for foreign investment. While Qiddiya is simultaneously developing a similar park in Riyadh, no official opening date has been set for the French site, as construction is expected to take several years.
