Ebonyi State Adopts Bola Tinubu as Sole 2027 Candidate

Minister of Works David Nweze Umahi announced that Ebonyi State will formally adopt President Bola Ahmed Tinubu as its sole presidential candidate for the 2027 elections on June 15. During a media tour of infrastructure projects in Ebonyi, Umahi rejected the 'Obidient' label associated with Peter Obi, characterizing previous support for the Nigeria Democratic Congress as an accident of history and asserting that the current administration has ended the region's historic federal neglect.

Central to this political shift is the revival of colonial-era infrastructure under the Renewed Hope Agenda. Umahi highlighted the Calabar-Ebonyi-Benue Trans-Saharan Superhighway, which serves as an investment corridor connecting Nigeria to Cameroon. The project includes a 123.6-kilometer first section costing 45 billion naira and a second section awarded to Infiouest International Limited for 668 billion naira. Other key projects inspected include the Ndi-Egbe Bridge and the 35 billion naira Onueke Flyover.

The Presidency defended the administration against claims of abandoning the South-East, with advisers Sunday Dare and Bayo Onanuga citing concrete data and increased FAAC funds as evidence of performance. Governor Francis Nwifuru echoed this support, praising federal commitments and declaring Ebonyi the safest state in Nigeria. Simultaneously, Ekiti State Governor Biodun Oyebanji credited federal interventions for allowing his state to meet wage bills and fund major roads. South-East governors and leaders are scheduled to convene in Abakaliki on June 16 to endorse Tinubu for a second term.
