Atiku Abubakar Demands Apology From President Tinubu Over Fuel Policy

Presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar demanded an apology from President Bola Tinubu for ridiculing his proposal to reintroduce a production-targeted fuel subsidy. Atiku, the 2027 candidate for the African Democratic Congress, argued that the current economic state is one of hardship rather than reform.

Atiku claims his position was vindicated by a recent call from the Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria for the government to support domestic refiners to lower petrol prices. He asserts that prioritizing domestic refining capacity over import subsidies would reduce costs and align with the Petroleum Industry Act.

Atiku urged President Tinubu to either apologize to him and the Nigerian public or withdraw from the 2027 presidential contest. This follows the president's previous dismissal of Atiku's policy goals as economic ignorance after Tinubu abolished fuel subsidies in 2023.
