Trump Announces Russian Diesel Supplies Amid Saudi Infrastructure Attacks

President Donald Trump announced Russia will supply over 300,000 tonnes of diesel to the U.S. and global markets as Houthi missiles strike Saudi airports.

Donald Trump announced that Russia will immediately supply more than 300,000 tonnes of diesel to the United States and international markets. The president outlined a plan to increase these shipments to 500,000 tons in November, with potential increases up to 3 million tons depending on refinery conditions. This shift in energy diplomacy occurs shortly before the November 3 midterm elections.

Analysts at Standard Chartered questioned the feasibility of these increases, citing degraded Russian refining capacity caused by Ukrainian attacks, domestic fuel shortages, and sanctions on specialized equipment. The group suggested that these volumes might not increase global supply but instead redirect barrels away from existing customers.

The announcement coincides with instability in the Middle East. Houthi forces claimed responsibility for missile attacks on King Khalid International Airport and Dammam airport in Saudi Arabia, as well as a missile intercepted over Riyadh, leaving Saudi energy infrastructure vulnerable.
