Giriraj Singh Attacks Mamata Banerjee Amid TMC Symbol Dispute

Union Minister Giriraj Singh accused former West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee of using crime and extortion to choke the state's population on September 19. Speaking in Patna, Singh alleged that Banerjee sought to turn West Bengal into Bangladesh and praised Suvendu Adhikari for offering a political alternative before the October 6 assembly by-elections. Singh also targeted Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi, calling him a robot with a polluted mind after Gandhi claimed the BJP manipulated election mandates.

These political attacks coincide with a legal crisis within the All India Trinamool Congress. The Election Commission of India issued an interim order freezing the party's original name and its Flowers and Grass symbol following a leadership conflict between factions led by Banerjee and Arup Roy.

To facilitate the upcoming elections, the commission assigned the Football Player symbol to Banerjee's faction and the Envelope symbol to Roy's faction. Banerjee has petitioned the Supreme Court to stay the order, characterizing the freeze as arbitrary.
