Michigan Senate Candidate Abdul El-Sayed Rejects Israel as US Ally

Democratic Senate candidate Abdul El-Sayed argues that Israel is not a friend or ally of the United States and calls for an end to financial subsidies.

Democratic nominee for the U.S. Senate in Michigan Abdul El-Sayed stated in interviews with ABC News and MS NOW that Israel is not an ally or a friend of the United States. El-Sayed argued that the Israeli government uses American financial subsidies to push Washington into unnecessary military conflicts, specifically citing reported lobbying for a war with Iran. He further accused the Israeli military of committing genocide and war crimes, asserting that the U.S. must reconsider its subsidies regardless of the outcome of Israel's October 27 elections.

During a debate with Republican opponent Mike Rogers, El-Sayed declined to specify whether Iran or Israel posed a greater threat to the U.S., calling the question "ridiculous." He has also criticized political opponents for accepting donations from the American Israel Public Affairs Committee. While some Jewish voters have pressured El-Sayed to moderate his rhetoric, he has maintained his position.

In response to shifting political dynamics in the U.S., Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu acknowledged growing divisions with the American left. Netanyahu stated he is working to forge alternative alliances with India and Latin American nations to mitigate the risk of a future U.S. administration souring on Israel. The Israeli government has rejected genocide accusations, claiming it works to minimize civilian casualties while Hamas uses civilians as human shields.
