Nigeria and Saudi Arabia Expand Strategic Economic Cooperation

Nigeria and Saudi Arabia are expanding their bilateral relationship to move beyond traditional religious and cultural ties toward a broader economic and strategic partnership. During a reception in Abuja on September 23, 2026, marking the 96th National Day of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Nigerian officials outlined plans for deeper cooperation in agriculture, energy, investment, aviation, financial technology, and trade.

Mohammed Idris, Nigeria's Minister of Information and National Orientation, invited Saudi investors to explore opportunities in mining, infrastructure, and food production. He noted that Nigeria intends to leverage Saudi Arabia's development experience to support President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's Renewed Hope Agenda.

To facilitate this growth, the Nigerian government is implementing reforms in the oil and gas sector and updating deep offshore regulations. These measures are designed to attract foreign capital and improve the overall investment environment for Saudi businesses.
