India Approves ₹8,970 Crore Guwahati-Tezpur Highway Corridor

The Union Cabinet of India, through the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, approved the development of the Guwahati-Tezpur Corridor on National Highway-15 in Assam on August 6, 2026. The project is budgeted at ₹8,970.20 crore and will be executed using a build-operate-transfer (BOT) toll model.

The 135.87 km, 4-lane access-controlled highway includes five major bypasses covering 58.7 km to reduce congestion in densely populated areas such as Baihata Chariali and Tezpur. Other key infrastructure components consist of 15 major bridges, 30 minor bridges, 19 flyovers, 210 km of service roads, and an elephant underpass.

Notably, the project incorporates a 4.9 km emergency landing facility in the Tezpur Bypass, which was coordinated with the Indian Air Force. The government expects the corridor to double average travel speeds and reduce travel time by half. This development aims to provide seamless connectivity to logistics nodes, eight industrial parks, and tourist sites, including Kaziranga National Park, across Assam and Arunachal Pradesh.
