Saronic Technologies to Build $3 Billion Shipyard in Texas

Saronic Technologies will invest over $3 billion to construct Port Alpha, an autonomous vessel shipyard in Brownsville, Texas, creating 10,000 jobs.

Saronic Technologies announced plans on July 16 to construct Port Alpha, a next-generation shipyard at the Port of Brownsville, Texas. The project involves a capital investment of approximately $3.248 billion to establish a facility for software-defined shipbuilding and autonomous maritime systems. Construction is slated to begin in 2026, with operations expected to open in 2028.

The shipyard will initially occupy 835 acres, with potential expansion up to 4,400 acres to produce vessels exceeding 1,200 feet in length. To attract the project, the Government of Texas provided an $80 million Texas Enterprise Fund grant and a $78,000 Veteran Created Job Bonus, while Cameron County approved a 95% tax abatement contingent on local hiring targets. The initiative is expected to create 10,000 direct jobs and generate an estimated $264.5 billion in economic impact for the state.

CEO Dino Mavrookas stated the investment aims to rebuild industrial capacity and ensure American maritime leadership. The expansion aligns with federal initiatives, including the SHIPS for America Act and an executive order from President Donald Trump on restoring maritime dominance. This project complements a separate $300 million investment Saronic is making in an existing shipyard in Franklin, Louisiana, to increase autonomous vessel production.
