Nigerian Governors Mobilize Support for Tinubu 2027 Re-election
Governors of Ondo and Edo states are leveraging infrastructure projects and grassroots campaigns to secure support for President Bola Tinubu's 2027 re-election bid.
Governors in southwestern and south-south Nigeria are actively mobilizing support for the re-election of Bola Ahmed Tinubu ahead of the January 16, 2027, presidential election. In Ondo State, Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa endorsed the PBAT Door-to-Door Movement, which unveiled 26 campaign vehicles to conduct grassroots mobilization across all 26 constituencies. The movement aims to secure over one million votes by visiting homes, markets, and religious centers to combat voter apathy.
Simultaneously, Edo State Governor Monday Okpebholo urged residents to support the presidency, arguing that the state should not be in opposition to the current administration. Okpebholo highlighted his focus on road construction, school buildings, and healthcare upgrades, while announcing plans for a 100-megawatt power plant in Edo South and an additional 16-megawatt project to address electricity shortages.
Both governors attributed their state-level development to federal economic reforms. Aiyedatiwa specifically credited the removal of fuel subsidies for increasing the state funds available for infrastructure. Okpebholo stated that federal reforms are yielding results in governance and development, asserting that the success of his state's progress is driven by the president.
