Trump Adopts High-Visibility Campaign Strategy for 2026 Midterms

President Donald Trump is pursuing an unconventional campaign strategy for the 2026 midterm elections by remaining highly visible in competitive races. Defying traditional political playbooks that advise presidents to distance themselves from swing districts due to low approval ratings, Trump has already campaigned with a dozen candidates in toss-up elections.

As part of this push, Trump is traveling to Georgia on July 22 to support a gubernatorial contest and a key Senate race. He has previously held rallies in Florida for gubernatorial candidate Byron Donalds and in New York for Representative Mike Lawler. To further drive engagement, Trump announced a rare midterm convention to be held in Dallas this September.

White House Chief of Staff Suzie Wiles stated the strategy intends to put the president on the ballot to activate low-propensity voters who are specifically motivated by him. While Republican leadership views this involvement as a critical tool for turnout, Democratic Representative Suzan DelBene argues that voters are tired of the administration and that Republicans cannot escape the political fallout of the president's record.
