Akinwumi Adesina Offers Expertise to President Bola Tinubu
Former African Development Bank President Akinwumi Adesina met with President Bola Tinubu to offer his services for Nigeria's development following the end of his bank tenure.
Former President of the African Development Bank Akinwumi Adesina met with President Bola Tinubu at the Presidential Villa in Abuja on Tuesday to brief him on the conclusion of his 10-year tenure at the bank. During the meeting, Adesina reported that the African Development Bank provided approximately $7 billion in financing to Nigeria between 2015 and 2025, which accounts for 63 percent of all financing provided to the country since 1971.
Adesina expressed his readiness to serve Nigeria in any capacity to support national development, though he explicitly stated he is not seeking a government appointment. He commended President Tinubu's economic reforms, specifically the removal of the petrol subsidy and the harmonisation of the foreign exchange window, calling these measures difficult but necessary for economic stabilisation.
Looking forward, Adesina argued that Nigeria must now move beyond macroeconomic stabilisation toward structural transformation and economic growth to ensure long-term stability.
