Trump Resumes Iran Talks Amid Nuclear Violations and Maritime Attacks

President Donald Trump authorized diplomatic talks in Oman after Iran attributed attacks on commercial ships to a mistake and allegedly breached a nuclear agreement.

President Donald Trump has directed a negotiating team, including Vice President JD Vance and Senior Adviser Jared Kushner, to proceed with talks in Muscat, Oman, following a request from Tehran. This diplomatic move follows recent attacks on commercial vessels in the Strait of Hormuz, which the Government of Iran privately attributed to an error caused by a faction seeking to undermine negotiations. While the White House is demanding a public acknowledgment of the mistake and a guarantee of maritime safety, Trump confirmed the U.S. will continue talks despite maintaining that the previous ceasefire is "over."

Simultaneously, satellite imagery reveals that Iran has begun rebuilding nuclear infrastructure at the Parchin military complex and a facility known as Mount Pickaxe. These actions suggest a breach of a Memorandum of Understanding signed three weeks ago, where Iran committed to not developing nuclear weapons. The reconstruction reportedly began before Trump ended the ceasefire and resumed retaliatory military strikes.

Tensions remain high as the U.S. issued an ultimatum for Iran to publicly commit to halting shipping attacks by Saturday. This deadline coincides with meetings in Muscat between Iranian Foreign Minister Seyyed Abbas Araqchi and Omani Foreign Minister Seyyed Badr Al-Busaidi. Additionally, Israel shared intelligence with the U.S. regarding a plot to assassinate Trump, though some U.S. officials suspect the intelligence is intended to provoke military escalation. Qatari negotiators have also traveled to Iran to help facilitate the resumption of talks.
