Donald Trump Rules Out Nuclear Strikes Against Iran
President Donald Trump rejected an Iranian peace proposal and ruled out nuclear weapons while suggesting the possible use of conventional MOAB bombs against Iranian nuclear sites.
President Donald Trump ruled out the use of nuclear or tactical nuclear weapons against Iran, stating that the United States does not need such options. While rejecting nuclear strikes, Trump indicated that the administration is considering the deployment of the GBU-43/B Massive Ordnance Air Blast, known as the Mother of All Bombs. He clarified that this munition is conventional and not nuclear.
Trump signaled that renewed strikes on Iranian nuclear facilities, specifically Pickaxe Mountain, are likely to ensure Iran cannot produce a nuclear weapon. He suggested these actions might follow the November 3 midterm elections, though he predicted the war would end soon through either force or diplomacy. He also ruled out the deployment of ground troops within Iran.
Despite active communications and a temporary halt to American and Israeli strikes following a formal Iranian request, Trump rejected a peace proposal delivered via Qatari diplomacy at the UN General Assembly. The proposal offered a cessation of hostilities and the lifting of the U.S. naval blockade in exchange for Iran reopening the Strait of Hormuz and committing to nuclear talks. Trump believes Iranian leverage will decrease after the midterms, which he expects will bring the conflict to a close.
