India Confirms Crew Safety After Tanker Attack in Iranian Waters

A Mozambique-flagged LPG tanker named DISHA, carrying 28 Indian crew members, was attacked in Iranian territorial waters on July 24, 2026. The Embassy of India in Tehran confirmed that all crew members are safe and stated that diplomatic officials are maintaining contact with local authorities to monitor the situation.

This incident follows escalating tensions in West Asia where commercial vessels with Indian seafarers have been targeted. On July 17, the Directorate General of Maritime Administration issued an advisory urging ship owners and managers to avoid deploying Indian seafarers on voyages through the Strait of Hormuz due to heightened security risks.

External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar condemned the strikes on civilian shipping and maritime crew. He emphasized that international waterways must remain safe and unimpeded according to international law and asserted that attacks on seafarers and infrastructure cannot be countenanced.
