Seyi Makinde Pledges Single Term and Demands Fuel Transparency
Seyi Makinde pledged to serve a single four-year term if elected president in 2027 while challenging Bola Tinubu to release petroleum pricing templates.
Presidential candidate and Governor of Oyo State Seyi Makinde pledged to serve a single four-year term if elected in 2027. Speaking at an Allied Peoples Movement (APM) North-East town hall meeting in Yola, Makinde promised to establish an all-inclusive transitional government of national unity to end a culture of political deception.
Makinde challenged President Bola Tinubu to publish the Federal Government's petroleum pricing template, arguing that Nigerians have a right to know how fuel prices are determined. He criticized the current administration's failures regarding electricity supply, compressed natural gas policies, and the naira-for-crude initiative. APM National Leader Bala Mohammed and vice-presidential candidate Lawal Daura also spoke at the event, positioning the party as a significant opposition force seeking a fundamental reset of Nigerian governance.
Simultaneously, African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar criticized the administration's handling of a recently announced fuel discount. Abubakar accused the presidency of turning a ₦66 per litre discount into a political spectacle, questioning whether the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) board approved the measure. He argued the relief is inaccessible to most Nigerians due to the limited number of NNPC retail stations and the requirement to use a mobile app.
