Marco Rubio and UAE Minister Meet Jaishankar in Mumbai

Indian External Affairs Minister Subramanyam Jaishankar hosted US Secretary of State Marco Rubio and UAE Foreign Minister Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan to discuss energy and security.

Indian External Affairs Minister Subramanyam Jaishankar hosted a series of high-level diplomatic meetings in Mumbai on October 20, focusing on energy security, trade, and regional stability. Jaishankar first met with a US Congressional delegation to discuss Indo-Pacific cooperation and trade before holding bilateral talks with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio to advance the US-India Comprehensive Global Strategic Partnership.

In a separate engagement, Jaishankar met with UAE Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan. The two ministers noted that bilateral trade has exceeded 100 billion US dollars since the signing of the Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement. Jaishankar described the situation in the Gulf as a matter of "deep concern" following Houthi militant attacks on Saudi Arabia, affirming India's support for the "unimpeded flow of trade, energy and fertiliser."

The diplomatic activity culminated in a trilateral meeting between Rubio, Jaishankar, and Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan to address shared economic priorities and regional energy security. Following the Mumbai sessions, Rubio is scheduled to travel to Jamnagar, Gujarat, to meet with business leaders and further discuss enhanced energy cooperation.
