Zelenskyy Negotiates Black Sea Grain Corridor With Three Nations
Volodymyr Zelenskyy is negotiating with Turkey, Egypt, and India to reopen Black Sea navigation for agricultural exports using vessels from those three countries.
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced that Ukraine is negotiating with Turkey, Egypt, and India to restore civil navigation in the Black Sea for agricultural exports. The proposed plan would utilize vessels flying the flags of these three nations to transport food from both Ukrainian and Russian ports. Under the proposal, both sides would enter mutual agreements to avoid military strikes on these specific vessels.
This initiative follows a significant decline in export capacity, which has dropped to 38% of regular volumes since August due to Russian air attacks on ships and port infrastructure. Zelenskyy stated that rail transport cannot handle the necessary volume of shipments, noting that "everyone needs this grain."
While Turkey, Egypt, and India proposed the safe navigation corridor, the Federal Government of Russia opposes the plan. In parallel, Kyiv has requested that the European Union reinstate its solidarity lanes program to facilitate grain exports through European ports and railways.
