Early Voting Begins in Key Ohio Midterm Toss-Up Races

Ohio voters began early in-person voting Monday for critical midterm elections that could determine control of the U.S. Senate and House of Representatives.

Early in-person voting began Monday in Ohio for the November 3 midterm elections. The state features several toss-up contests, including a high-stakes special election for the U.S. Senate and two House seats in the seventh and ninth districts. Republicans currently hold the White House and both chambers of Congress, but the results in Ohio are viewed as key to maintaining that control.

Jon Husted, the Republican Senator defending his seat, campaigned in Columbus on Monday, where he highlighted record job growth and supported a federal gas tax holiday. He also announced federal funding for home visiting services. Democratic challenger Sherrod Brown campaigned among young voters at Ohio State University, attributing high prices to a "rigged system" and calling for an end to tariffs and war.

President Donald Trump endorsed Husted at a rally in Vandalia on Saturday and is scheduled to return to Youngstown on October 12. Trump currently holds a 32% approval rating as voters weigh issues including 3.4% inflation and the war with Iran launched by the administration on February 28. In the House, Republican incumbent Max Miller faces Brian Poindexter in the seventh district, while Democrat Marcy Kaptur faces Republican Derek Merrin in the ninth district.
