Israel Blocks Construction of International Military Outpost in Gaza

Israel is preventing contractors from entering Gaza to build a military outpost intended for 150 international troops under a UN-authorized program.

The Cabinet of Israel is blocking the construction of a military outpost in Gaza designed to house 150 international troops. The project, commissioned in August 2026 by the Board of Peace, was intended to serve as a vanguard for an international stabilization force including personnel from Morocco and Kosovo.

Authorized by the UN in 2025 and chaired by U.S. President Donald Trump, the Board of Peace awarded the construction contract to Louisiana-based Arkel International. The outpost was planned for a site previously used by the Gaza Humanitarian Foundation. However, Israel has refused to allow equipment and contractors to cross the border, stalling a broader $2.45 billion six-month reconstruction program.

Board of Peace officials suggest the Israeli government may allow the project to proceed after the October 27 elections. While executive board member Steve Witkoff stated that the organization can point to real progress, the situation on the ground remains volatile. Gaza health authorities report that Israeli strikes have killed approximately 1,400 people since the October 2025 ceasefire.
