Donald Trump Dismisses FBI Probe Into Senator Lindsey Graham's Death

President Donald Trump criticized the FBI for investigating the sudden death of Senator Lindsey Graham, which medical examiners attribute to cardiovascular disease.

President Donald Trump dismissed the Federal Bureau of Investigation's involvement in the death of Senator Lindsey Graham, stating the agency is "wasting their time" by pursuing conspiracy theories. Graham, 71, died suddenly in Washington, D.C., over the weekend following a trip to Kyiv, Ukraine, where he met with President Volodymyr Zelenskyy to advocate for stricter sanctions against Russia.

Washington's chief medical examiner issued a preliminary report attributing the death to aortic dissection caused by arteriosclerotic cardiovascular disease. Trump cited Graham's family history of heart complications and mentioned that Graham had previously complained of a bad back as evidence of the condition. Despite these findings, FBI Director Kash Patel announced the bureau was assisting local authorities, and approximately 20 agents were seen at Graham's Capitol Hill residence. While law enforcement reports no evidence of foul play, Senator John Cornyn and retired Lieutenant General Keith Kellogg called for full toxicology and autopsy reports to rule out foreign interference by Russia or Iran.

In response to the vacancy, South Carolina Governor Henry McMaster appointed the late senator's sister, Darline Graham, to fill the remainder of the term until a special Republican primary on August 11. Separately, Supreme Court Justice Elena Kagan paid tribute to Graham during testimony before a House Appropriations subcommittee on July 14, recalling his bipartisan support during her 2010 confirmation process.
