Trump Approval Drops to 37% Amid Midterm Anxiety

President Donald Trump has seen his approval rating fall to 37%, the lowest for any president entering a midterm election in Wall Street Journal polling since 1990. While some surveys show his approval as low as 29%, 61% of respondents in the Wall Street Journal poll express disapproval. This decline coincides with rising internal Republican Party anxiety over inflation and the war in Iran.

Republican candidates in critical races are increasingly distancing themselves from the president to appeal to frustrated voters. Mike Rogers in Michigan and Ashley Hinson in Iowa have called for an end to the war in Iran, while Florida's Byron Donalds and Congresswoman María Elvira Salazar have similarly signaled distance. Polling indicates 11% of 2024 Trump supporters regret their vote, and a similar percentage of non-MAGA Republicans intend to vote for Democrats in November.

Trump continues to project strength, threatening to "annihilate" Iran during an appearance before the United Nations in New York. However, his domestic authority faces challenges from federal courts, which recently blocked administration restrictions on mail-in ballots and a ban on news outlets including CNN, MS Now, and Politico from the White House. The White House maintains that Trump remains the unequivocal leader of the party, citing job growth and tax cuts as evidence of success.
