Donald Trump Uses Antisemitic Slur at Kansas Campaign Rally

President Donald Trump used the antisemitic term Shylock during a Kansas rally to defend Senator Roger Marshall, drawing condemnation from the Anti-Defamation League.

President Donald Trump used the antisemitic slur "shylock" during a Monday night rally in Park City, Kansas, while supporting Republican Senator Roger Marshall. Trump used the term to describe how critics characterize Marshall's history of filing lawsuits against former patients with outstanding medical bills, claiming Marshall was required by law to pursue those debts. However, reporting indicates no federal or state law mandated such lawsuits.

During the same event, Trump criticized Representative Ilhan Omar and Senate candidate Abdul El-Sayed. He described Somalia, Omar's country of origin, as "maybe the worst country in the entire world" and made comments regarding the common Muslim name Mohamed.

The Anti-Defamation League issued a social media post on Tuesday denouncing the term as rooted in a "longstanding antisemitic stereotype." The organization faced criticism from observers and former political advisers for not naming Trump specifically in the post, contrasting the response with the group's more direct condemnations of other politicians in the past.

This is not the first time Trump has used the term; he previously used it during a rally in Iowa in 2025. At that time, he claimed he was unaware of the word's antisemitic connotations, defining a shylock only as a moneylender who charges high rates.
