Narendra Modi Assures Support for Maharashtra Drought Relief
Prime Minister Narendra Modi assured the Maharashtra government of central support following a meeting with Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde regarding severe state-wide drought.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi met with Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde in New Delhi on Monday to address a severe drought affecting the state. The Maharashtra government had previously declared drought conditions in 265 of its 358 talukas, covering approximately 74 percent of the state, following a significant rainfall deficit.
During the hour-long discussion, Modi requested specific data on crop damage, livestock fodder, and water availability. He assured the state of the central government's support in managing the crisis. Shinde subsequently announced that a central team will visit affected villages to conduct formal assessments of the damage.
The meeting took place against a backdrop of political friction between Mahayuti allies, the BJP and Shiv Sena, who are currently disputing candidate selections for the Pune Teachers Constituency MLC election.
