Iran Blocks Strait of Hormuz Over US Peace Terms

Mohsen Rezaei announced the Strait of Hormuz will remain closed until the United States accepts all seven of Iran's conditions for a peaceful resolution.

Secretary of Iran's Supreme National Security Council Mohsen Rezaei announced that the Strait of Hormuz will remain closed until the United States accepts all seven of Iran's conditions for a peaceful resolution. While Rezaei noted that the U.S. has accepted some terms through diplomatic channels in Pakistan, Qatar, and Iraq, he labeled the overall response insufficient and vague.

Rezaei threatened that further U.S. aggression would trigger Iranian strikes against regional infrastructure, specifically targeting cables, data centers, and AI facilities in the United Arab Emirates and around the Strait of Hormuz. The Iranian Navy also warned that any ships disabling navigation systems in the waterway would be identified as hostile.

This escalation follows a cycle of hostilities beginning February 28, when the U.S. and Israel launched joint attacks on Iranian cities, including the Assaluyeh industrial zone and the South Pars gas field. Despite a ceasefire in April and a memorandum of understanding in June, negotiations over sanctions and Iran's nuclear program have stalled.

In other regional developments, Houthi rebels claimed responsibility for projectile attacks on King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, which killed 12 people. Meanwhile, Israeli artillery killed a retired Lebanese army officer in Yater, and strikes continued in central Gaza. In Israel, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu faced testimony from former Attorney General Avichai Mandelblit in his ongoing corruption trial.
