Opposition Leaders Criticize Labour Government Over Migrant Crisis

Opposition Leader Kemi Badenoch and other critics accuse Prime Minister Andy Burnham of failing to control UK borders following a surge in illegal boat crossings.

The Labour government faces intensifying criticism over its handling of the UK migrant crisis after Home Office data revealed more than 1,000 illegal migrants arrived between September 21 and September 23.

Kemi Badenoch, the Leader of the Opposition, criticized Prime Minister Andy Burnham for omitting strategies to combat illegal immigration, economic control, and defense funding from his recent Labour conference speech, stating that "the country deserves better".

Shadow Home Secretary Chris Philp claimed Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood has no control over the borders, pointing to a record-length crossing from Normandy to the Isle of Wight as evidence of systemic failure. Simultaneously, political writer Brendan O'Neill warned that the government could face lawsuits for recklessly endangering women and Jewish people by failing to stop small boat crossings.
