President Bola Tinubu Launches 2027 Re-election Campaign for APC Ticket

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu formally initiated his campaign for a second term in the 2027 general election through the purchase and submission of All Progressives Congress (APC) nomination and expression of interest forms. The process began on April 28, 2026, when Representative James Faleke purchased the N100 million presidential forms on the president's behalf in Abuja. While Faleke claimed the funds were crowd-sourced from over 1,000 supporters, the Governor's Advisory Council in Lagos also claimed credit for the purchase.

On May 7, 2026, Vice President Kashim Shettima formally submitted the documents to the APC national leadership at the Bola Ahmed Tinubu International Conference Centre. The ceremony was attended by twelve state governors and key party officials, including National Chairman Nentawe Yilwatda and Speaker Tajudeen Abbas. Hope Uzodinma, Chairman of the Progressive Governors Forum, announced a consensus among governors from 31 APC-controlled states to support the president's re-election.

Despite the strong internal endorsement, the APC National Working Committee adopted direct primaries for the presidential ticket to increase grassroots participation. This decision allows other party members to contest, such as Edo State businessman Osifo Stanley, who purchased the N100 million forms to challenge the incumbent. Other APC members also sought governorship seats, though tensions emerged in Lagos as Samuel Ajose criticized the reported consensus adoption of Deputy Governor Obafemi Hamzat. The Independent National Electoral Commission has scheduled the presidential election for January 16, 2027.
