AP-NORC Poll Shows Trump Immigration Approval Drops to 39%

An AP-NORC poll of 1,165 adults conducted from July 23 to 27 shows that Donald Trump has seen his national approval rating for immigration performance drop to 39%, down from 49% at the start of his second term. Despite this decline, immigration remains his strongest political issue among Republicans, with approximately 80% approving of his approach.

This Republican support persists despite a year of aggressive enforcement, including a mass deportation campaign that resulted in at least 10 deaths, three of which occurred in July during encounters with federal agents. About half of U.S. adults believe the president has "gone too far" in deporting undocumented immigrants and restricting legal immigration, specifically opposing the use of traffic stops for arrests and the deployment of federal agents into cities.

The poll indicates other areas of weakness for the administration, with national approval for the economy at 32% and healthcare at 30%. While healthcare approval remains low overall, it rose among Republicans to 71% from 59% in December. Meanwhile, Democrats are preparing to make healthcare and the war in Iran central themes for the upcoming midterm elections.
