Danish Artist Unveils Satirical Trump Statue at European Parliament
Danish artist Jens Galschiøt installed a gold-leaf statue of Donald Trump at the European Parliament to protest the U.S. President's climate and democratic policies.
Danish artist Jens Galschiøt installed a provocative 8.5-foot-tall sculpture titled "The Orange Plague," or "King of Injustice," at the European Parliament in Strasbourg, France. The copper statue, coated in 23-karat gold leaf, depicts a naked President Donald Trump holding a golf club and the scales of justice while sitting on the shoulders of a frail man. The exhibit, which includes the distribution of over 1,000 miniature 3D-printed versions of the statue, was sponsored by Danish MEP Per Clausen of the socialist Red-Green Alliance.
The artwork serves as a satirical critique of Trump's climate policies, his perceived threats to the rules-based world order, and his influence on democratic norms. The display arrives during a period of strained transatlantic relations marked by U.S. military expansion in Greenland and threats of trade tariffs against the European Union. In response to shifting U.S. policies, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen vowed that Europe would continue protecting nature.
Approved by the European Parliament's quaestors under rules for MEP-sponsored cultural events, the statue will remain on display until Thursday. It is scheduled to move next to the COP31 U.N. Climate Conference in Turkey, following a previous exhibition at the COP30 summit in Brazil. President Trump has not yet commented on the sculpture.
