Iranian President Admits Difficult Communication With Reclusive Supreme Leader

President Masoud Pezeshkian stated on Wednesday that interaction and communication with Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei is currently very difficult. This admission follows the continued public absence of Mojtaba Khamenei, who assumed leadership in early March after his father, Ali Khamenei, was killed in a joint U.S.-Israeli airstrike on February 28.

Speculation regarding the Supreme Leader's health persists due to a lack of audio or video recordings. While official Iranian statements have fluctuated between reporting a small scratch and life-altering injuries, other reports suggest he may have suffered facial burns and requires a prosthetic leg from the February strike.

This power vacuum has fueled internal political struggles. Senior cleric Mohammad-Bagher Kharrazi claimed the Supreme Leader warned that any further attempt by Pezeshkian to resign would be accepted. The president's office, via deputy Mehdi Tabatabaei, denied these claims. Conflicting reports also emerge regarding their interactions, with some sources alleging a single brief encounter in a vehicle with tinted windows, while Pezeshkian has previously described their meetings as cordial and lengthy.
