Supreme Court Reviews Border Wall and Prisoner Rights
The Supreme Court of the United States is weighing requests to resume border wall construction and reviewing state prisoner rights following a shift in Senate composition.
The Supreme Court of the United States is reviewing several high-profile legal matters following a blue wave in the midterm elections that shifted the composition of the Senate. The Court recently heard arguments in Guerrero v. Johnson, a case examining the specific conditions under which state prisoners are permitted to return to federal court for post-conviction review.
Simultaneously, the Trump administration has petitioned the Court to allow the resumption of border wall construction in the Big Bend region of southwestern Texas. This request has been fully briefed and is currently awaiting a judicial decision.
These proceedings follow a previous ruling in Learning Resources, Inc. v. Trump. In that case, the Court struck down tariffs imposed by Donald Trump, determining that the International Emergency Economic Powers Act does not grant the president the authority to implement such tariffs.
