China Outlines Global Governance and Tech Goals at NPC
Chinese officials reaffirmed a commitment to non-hegemonic diplomacy and technological self-reliance during press conferences held at the 14th National People's Congress in Beijing.
During the fourth session of the 14th National People's Congress in Beijing, Wang Yi and other government officials detailed China's diplomatic and economic trajectory for the 15th Five-Year Plan (2026–2030). Foreign Minister Wang Yi emphasized a rejection of hegemony and the law of the jungle, advocating for a community with a shared future for mankind based on sovereign equality and multilateralism.
These policy shifts align with the Global Governance Initiative proposed by President Xi Jinping at the 2025 Shanghai Cooperation Organization Summit in Tianjin. The initiative seeks to create a more equitable international system, particularly for the Global South. While seeking stability with major nations, Wang Yi warned against the revival of outdated geopolitical thinking.
NPC spokesperson Lou Qinjian complemented these diplomatic goals by calling for the cessation of U.S.-Israel military operations against Iran and emphasizing respect for Iranian sovereignty. On the economic front, Lou highlighted a strategic shift toward sci-tech self-reliance, citing the development of humanoid robots and home-grown core technologies as primary drivers for the national economy. China also intends to host APEC events in 2026 to focus on digital transformation and green development.
