U.S. Designates Italy's A/I Collective as Global Terrorist

The United States Department of State designated the Italy-based technology collective Autistici/Inventati, also known as the A/I Collective, as a Specially Designated Global Terrorist on August 26, 2026. The U.S. government alleges the group provides sophisticated digital infrastructure, including encrypted communications, web hosting, and anonymity shields, to violent far-left networks and Islamic terrorist groups such as Hamas, Hezbollah, and the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps.

Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent stated that the collective's tools enable groups to recruit and coordinate attacks while remaining untraceable. The State Department linked the collective to infrastructure sabotage of the Transalpine Pipeline and rail systems in France, Italy, Germany, and the Netherlands. Domestically, the U.S. alleges the tools were used by Rose City Antifa to target Customs and Border Protection helicopters and ICE personnel, and by an anarchist cell targeting a law enforcement training center in Atlanta, Georgia.

The designation freezes the collective's assets under U.S. jurisdiction and prohibits U.S. citizens and financial institutions from conducting business with the group. This action led to the immediate shutdown of several radical websites. Autistici/Inventati denied the charges, asserting that antifascism and anticapitalism are not terrorism.
