U.S. Designates Italy-Based A/I Collective as Global Terrorist

The United States Department of State designated Autistici/Inventati, an Italy-based technology collective also known as the A/I Collective, as a Specially Designated Global Terrorist on August 26, 2026. The designation freezes the group's assets under U.S. jurisdiction and prohibits U.S. citizens and financial institutions from conducting business with the collective.

According to a State Department memo, the collective provides sophisticated digital infrastructure, including encrypted communications, web hosting, and anonymity shields, to violent far-left networks and Islamic terrorist groups. The U.S. government alleges these tools allow groups to recruit and coordinate attacks while remaining untraceable. Specific links were identified between the collective's services and the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine, Hamas, Hezbollah, and the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps.

Domestic and international attacks were attributed to the collective's infrastructure. In the U.S., the State Department linked the tools to Rose City Antifa's attacks on Customs and Border Protection helicopters and ICE personnel, as well as a firebombing of a crisis pregnancy center in Madison, Wisconsin, by Jane's Revenge. Internationally, the tools were linked to attacks by the Vulkangruppe in Germany and sabotage of the Transalpine Pipeline.

Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent stated that the U.S. will use all available legal and economic tools to combat far-left terrorism and cut the financial lifelines of such organizations.
