Kashim Shettima Represents Nigeria at African Union Summit

Vice President Kashim Shettima traveled to Luanda, Angola, to represent President Bola Ahmed Tinubu at the 21st Extraordinary Session of the Assembly of Heads of State and Government of the African Union. The summit, themed “Strengthening Mechanisms for Conflict Prevention and Resolution in Africa,” focused on enhancing early warning systems, preventive diplomacy, and the effectiveness of the African Peace and Security Architecture.

Accompanied by senior defense and security officials, Shettima delivered President Tinubu's address to outline Nigeria's position on continental security. During the deliberations, Nigeria advocated for stronger African-led mechanisms for conflict resolution and called for sustainable African financing for peace and security to ensure greater ownership of solutions among member states.

Nigeria also used the platform to urge the African Union to take urgent action against recurring xenophobic and Afrophobic attacks in South Africa. Shettima expressed support for the Luanda Action Plan before returning to Abuja, Nigeria, following the conclusion of the session.
