Protesters Clash With Police Over U.S. Ambassador's Yacht in Venice

Italian opposition deputies also criticized the tour due to the taxpayer costs associated with deploying security forces.

Fertitta issued a statement supporting the right to peaceful protest and freedom of speech, describing the tour as a way to celebrate U.S.-Italy friendship. The incident occurred amid reported tensions and a cooling of relations between President Trump and Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni. The visit also coincided with the city's preparations for the Festa del Redentore festival.
