UK Transport Operators Warn of Failures as Diesel Prices Surge

UK coach and haulage operators are urging government intervention as record diesel prices threaten business viability and school transport services.

UK coach and haulage operators are warning that record diesel prices, which have exceeded £2 per litre, are threatening the viability of hundreds of transport businesses. Industry leaders from the Road Haulage Association and the Confederation of Passenger Transport report that slim profit margins make current costs unsustainable, potentially leading to widespread business failures and cuts to school transport services.

The price surge stems from Middle East conflict disruptions and high US export costs. In response to global volatility and suggestions from Donald Trump to ban US diesel exports to lower domestic prices, G7 nations announced the release of up to 100 million barrels of emergency diesel and crude oil stockpiles to stabilize the market.

Transport Minister Keir Mather maintains that the national fuel supply is resilient. However, transport operators continue to call for urgent government intervention, specifically requesting fuel duty pauses and rebates to offset significant monthly cost increases.
