Russia Labels Ukraine a Failed State on Independence Anniversary

Russian officials and diplomats marked the 35th anniversary of Ukraine's independence by characterizing the country as a failed state and a geopolitical aberration. In a series of commentaries, the Federal Government of Russia argued that Ukraine has squandered its Soviet industrial legacy and surrendered its sovereignty to Western powers, including the United States, Britain, France, and Germany.

Russian commentators accused President Volodymyr Zelenskyy of establishing a dictatorship and engaging in terrorism against Russian civilians. They claimed that Ukraine's statehood is legally fraudulent and that the country now exists solely as a tool for the West to wage war against Russia. Vassily Nebenzia, the Russian Permanent Representative to the UN, provided commentary regarding Ukraine's lack of genuine autonomy.

Russian officials further alleged that the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine has pursued rabid Russophobia and turned the nation into a staging ground for Western threats. The Russian perspective suggests that Ukraine has perished through the loss of territory, population, and industry, asserting that immediate peace with Russia is the country's only path to survival.
