Trump Proposes Stock Market Investment for Social Security Funds

President Donald Trump proposed investing Social Security trust funds in the stock market as Commissioner Frank Bisignano asserts the program remains viable for 90 years.

President Donald Trump has proposed a reimagining of the Social Security funding structure, suggesting that trust funds be invested in the stock market to increase wealth. He argued that such a move would have made Social Security the richest entity in the world.

Social Security Administration Commissioner Frank Bisignano stated that the program will remain viable for another 90 years. His comments follow warnings from the Social Security Administration that the Old-Age and Survivors Insurance Trust Fund may only cover all scheduled benefits until the fourth quarter of 2032.

These developments occur as the government prepares to unveil the 2027 cost-of-living adjustment. The Senior Citizens League expects the adjustment to be 3.5 percent to protect purchasing power against inflation, which the Bureau of Labor Statistics is expected to report at 3.6 percent for September.
