Xi Jinping and Peter Pellegrini Discuss AI and EU Ties
Chinese President Xi Jinping hosted Slovak President Peter Pellegrini in Beijing to strengthen strategic partnerships in AI, clean energy, and China-EU relations.
President Xi Jinping held talks with Slovak President Peter Pellegrini in Beijing on July 28, 2026, during a state visit aimed at strengthening the strategic partnership between the two nations. The leaders identified four priority areas for cooperation: consolidating strategic mutual trust, enhancing people-to-people bonds, improving global governance, and deepening collaboration in emerging sectors such as artificial intelligence, robotics, the digital economy, and clean energy.
Xi commended Slovakia for upholding the one-China principle and urged the country to support sound relations between China and the European Union. In response, Pellegrini expressed readiness to coordinate with China on multilateralism and global AI governance, while welcoming increased Chinese investment into Slovakia.
The visit included a welcome banquet and a formal ceremony at the Great Hall of the People.
