Xi Jinping Calls for Deeper Strategic Partnership With Egypt

President Xi Jinping published a signed article in Egyptian media calling for expanded Belt and Road cooperation ahead of his scheduled state visit to Egypt.

President Xi Jinping published a signed article in the Egyptian newspapers Al-Ahram, Al-Akhbar, and Al-Gomhuria on September 1, 2026, outlining a new blueprint for the comprehensive strategic partnership between China and Egypt. Writing ahead of a scheduled state visit to Egypt, Xi characterized the bilateral relationship as a benchmark for cooperation between China and Arab states, as well as between China and Africa.

In the article, titled "Celebrating 70 Years of Solidarity, China and Egypt Embark on a New Journey," Xi commemorated seven decades of diplomatic relations. He highlighted existing infrastructure projects and the China-Egypt Suez Economic and Trade Cooperation Zone as foundations for further growth. He called for deeper synergy in development strategies and high-quality Belt and Road cooperation, specifically targeting expanded collaboration in science, technology, health, education, tourism, sports, and archaeology.

Xi positioned both countries as major Global South nations that should promote international fairness, justice, and true multilateralism to maintain world peace. The state visit follows an invitation from Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi to explore further avenues of cooperation and align China's initiatives with Egypt's Vision 2030.
