Seyi Makinde Launches Presidential Campaign and Warns APC
Seyi Makinde launched his 2027 presidential campaign in Bauchi, urging the ruling APC to stop sidelining opposition parties and calling for a national reset.
Oyo State Governor and Allied Peoples Movement (APM) presidential candidate Seyi Makinde launched his 2027 presidential campaign in Bauchi on Saturday. During the event, Makinde called for a national reset to address systemic hunger, insecurity, and governance exclusion, positioning the APM as the necessary alternative to strengthen Nigeria's security architecture.
In a series of remarks, Makinde urged citizens to accept money offered by politicians during electioneering, asserting the funds belong to the people, but insisted voters must guard their consciences and make independent decisions. He specifically called on President Bola Tinubu and the All Progressives Congress (APC) to stop efforts to sideline opposition parties, arguing that Nigeria cannot become a one-party state.
Makinde's warnings followed a Federal High Court judgment in Abuja that nullified the leadership of Senator David Mark within the African Democratic Congress (ADC). The ruling invalidated the ADC's caretaker committee and the nomination of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar as the party's 2027 presidential candidate. Makinde urged the ruling party to seek victory through fair competition rather than destroying democratic institutions like the judiciary and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
