Donald Trump Pledges $15 Billion in Agricultural Aid

President Donald Trump announced $15 billion in aid for U.S. farmers to offset rising costs ahead of the midterm elections.

The administration of Donald Trump pledged $15 billion in aid to U.S. agriculture producers in the weeks preceding the midterm elections. The package is designed to offset rising diesel and fertilizer costs resulting from administration tariffs and the war in Iran. Funding for these initiatives originates from the United States Department of Agriculture and does not require immediate congressional approval.

The aid package includes an $8 billion one-time payment for diesel costs, $5 billion in guaranteed loans for ranchers and fishermen, $1.8 billion for conservation program participants, and $573 million for fertilizer manufacturing. Additionally, the United States Department of Agriculture plans to distribute $13.8 billion in safety net payments for the 2025 crop year.

These announcements coincide with visits by the president to Iowa and Kansas as the administration seeks to maintain support among rural voters in competitive agricultural states. While the measures address input costs and trade tensions with China, critics argue the payments are temporary bailouts that fail to resolve systemic issues, including labor shortages caused by immigrant deportations.
