Norway and Pakistan Expand Trade and Climate Cooperation

Norwegian Foreign Minister Espen Barth Eide conducted a two-day official visit to Islamabad from August 13 to 14, 2026, marking the first visit by a Norwegian foreign minister to Pakistan in a decade. Invited by Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, Eide engaged in delegation-level talks to review the full spectrum of bilateral relations.

The two nations agreed to expand cooperation across several sectors, including trade, investment, education, climate change, renewable energy, and maritime affairs. The discussions aimed to strengthen people-to-people connections and economic partnerships, with Dar noting the role of Norwegian companies in supporting Pakistan's economic growth.

During the meetings, Eide praised the "important and constructive role" Pakistan played during the recent Iran-US conflict. He specifically acknowledged the contributions of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, Ishaq Dar, and Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir. This visit followed a period of sustained engagement, including high-level telephone conversations in early 2026 and a May visit to Islamabad by Norwegian State Secretary Andreas Motzfeldt Kravik.
